What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki can be an excellent tool for stress reduction and relaxation. Reiki can be used as a complementary therapy used in conjunction with your regular medical treatment for “acute and chronic disease, anxiety, fatigue, depression, and other stress related symptoms” (UCSF, 2000).
What are the benefits of Reiki for Empaths and Highly Sensitive People (HSP)?
Reiki can be a valuable tool to manage feelings of being overwhelmed and overstimulated. Empaths often experience the emotions, physical/mental ailments, and energy of others as if it’s their own. HSPs are affected by the moods of others and quickly become overstimulated with the rhythms of day to day life. Reiki can help restore your own energy and bring you back into balance. Reiki can help release what you have picked up from others so that you can be grounded in yourself.
For those who are easily overstimulated and typically feel drained at the end of the day; Reiki can help restore your energy.
How does in-person Reiki work?
Reiki activates the body’s own self-healing process to restore physical and emotional well-being. The Reiki practitioner channels Reiki through the palm of their hands. The Reiki practitioner places their hands either gently on your body or six inches above your body on specific points, similar to acupuncture. The practitioner designs the Reiki session based on your individual intentions. There are over 20 different areas on the body that can receive treatment. The practitioner moves to another area of your body once the energy transference has taken place. Clients may notice warmth, tingling sensations, and a sense of relaxation as the treatment is being given.
How does Distance Healing work?
The Reiki practitioner and client will schedule a specific time for treatment where the client can comfortably lie down in an area with little to no disruption. The client will send the practitioner a photo and a few details about themselves including their intention for the session. At the time of treatment, the Reiki practitioner and client will connect via zoom to begin the session. As the Reiki practitioner moves through the treatment, there will be check-ins to ensure the client is comfortable. Clients may notice warmth, tingling sensations, and a sense of relaxation as the treatment is being given.
What is the history of Reiki?
Reiki is reported to have been in use for thousands of years. Reiki was formally developed in 1922 by Buddhist Mikao Usui in Japan. The practice was introduced to the West in the 1940’s by Hawayo Takata, who studied in Tokyo under Reiki Master Chujiro Hayashi.
As of 2007, over 1.2 million adults and 161,000 children in the US have tried Reiki or a similar therapy at least once in the previous year. Over 60 hospitals in the US offer Reiki as a complementary therapy in conjunction with their traditional medical treatment and over 800 hospitals provide Reiki education (University of Minnesota, ND.)
What does Reiki feel like?
Some clients feel warmth/heat emanating from the practitioner’s hands. Others feel a tingling sensation throughout their body. Others fall into a deep state of sleep during the session as their body becomes relaxed. Some clients do not feel anything at all. Rest assured that whether you feel Reiki energy or not, it is still working.
How often should I get Reiki treatments?
For new clients, it is recommended to receive 4 - 12 Reiki treatments spaced 1 week apart. After 4-12 weeks, it is recommended to get a Reiki tune-up once every four to eight weeks. Your individual treatment plan can be discussed with your Reiki practitioner depending on your goals of treatment.
